Duane Newman
Coder - Speaker - Microsoft MVP - Scuba Instructor
Duane builds software, teaches developers, supports the tech community, and helps people learn how to breathe underwater.
He has been a professional software developer since 1997, which means he has had plenty of time to work with technologies he loves, and a few he would prefer we all agree never happened.
These days you will usually find him working in C# and .NET, building modern applications with technologies such as .NET MAUI and Blazor, and increasingly working alongside AI coding agents as part of his everyday development workflow. As Co-Founder of Alien Arc Technologies, LLC, he helps organizations build software that reduces duplication, automates repetitive processes, and removes friction from the work people do every day. He is a firm believer that if something has to be done more than twice, software should probably be doing it for you.
He also loves helping other developers learn. He co-organizes the Kansas City .NET User Group, provides hands-on developer training, and speaks at conferences and user groups about .NET, C#, application development, testing, DevOps, AI-assisted development, and whatever else he has learned recently that might save someone else a few hours of frustration. Microsoft has recognized his community involvement with the MVP Award every year since 2017, and he has had the privilege of speaking to developer communities across the U.S. and internationally.
Away from the keyboard, Duane is a PADI and SDI scuba instructor and co-owner of Dive Rinse Repeat Scuba. He became a diver in 2015 despite being anxious in the water, and now he gets to help other people overcome their fears and discover what waits beneath the surface.
